From Detection to Restoration: an AI-driven workflow for modern caries management

Speaker: Amanda Bassey-Duke

Date: June 13, 2026

Time: 13:30‐14:30

Room: Atrium 2

The aim of this session is to explore how AI-powered diagnostics and integrated digital workflows can enhance modern caries management from early detection through to definitive restoration.

Objectives

By the end of this session participants will have been:

  1. Guided on how artificial intelligence and digital dentistry are reshaping the modern caries workflow – from early detection through to definitive restoration.
  2. Demonstrated how, using the integrated ecosystem of Dentsply Sirona technologies including DS Core, Pearl AI integration, and CEREC CAD/CAM workflows, clinicians can improve diagnostic confidence, communication, efficiency and minimally invasive restorative outcomes.
  3. Guided on the evolving role of AI-assisted diagnostics in everyday clinical practice, highlighting how radiographic interpretation and digital workflows can support earlier intervention, improved patient understanding, and streamlined restorative delivery.
  4. Taken on the complete digital patient journey of AI-assisted caries detection and risk assessment; Cloud-based collaboration and case management using DS Core; Digital scanning and treatment planning; Chairside CAD/CAM restorative workflows with CEREC; and same-day minimally invasive restorative solutions.
  5. Outline the practical realities of integrating AI into dentistry, including clinician oversight, workflow adoption, patient acceptance and future opportunities for predictive and preventive care.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session participants should be able to:

  1. Understand the role of artificial intelligence in contemporary caries detection and radiographic interpretation.
  2. Describe how DS Core supports integrated digital workflows, collaboration and data management in restorative dentistry.
  3. Explain how AI tools such as Pearl can improve diagnostic consistency, patient communication and clinical decision-making.
  4. Demonstrate how intraoral scanning and CEREC CAD/CAM technology can streamline restorative treatment following caries diagnosis.
  5. Recognise the benefits of a minimally invasive, digitally driven workflow for improving efficiency, patient experience and restorative outcomes.
  6. Evaluate the opportunities and limitations of AI integration within routine dental practice.
