The aim of this session is to provide an overview of the identification and initial management of medical emergencies and relevant aspects of history taking.
Objectives
By the end of this session participants will have been:
- Informed of the various ways of identifying the patient at risk of developing a medical emergency in a primary care setting.
- Guided on the initial management of medical emergencies.
- Informed of the importance of risk assessment in patients with medical problems.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session participants should be able to:
- Recognise patients at risk of a medical emergency.
- Understand and identify what constitutes a ‘high risk’ patient from targeted history taking.
- Understand the principles of initial medical emergency management.
