The aim of this session is to update participants’ knowledge on working with vulnerable adults and adults who lack the capacity to consent in relation to health, social and personal care needs.
Objectives
By the end of this session participants will have been:
- Introduced to the definition of an ‘adult at risk’ and ‘harm’.
- Provided with a recent historical perspective of safeguarding vulnerable adults.
- Introduced to key legislation in Scotland to protect vulnerable adults.
- Described the practical role of the dental team in the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session participants should be able to:
- Define the terms ‘adult at risk’ and ‘harm’.
- Conduct their professional duty in relation to vulnerable adults.
- Understand the relevant legislation and rights of adults at risk, and the special circumstances which might impact upon these rights.
- Demonstrate that social inequalities and discrimination may heighten the risk of harm.
