To equip general dental practitioners with the knowledge and clinical confidence to assess suitability for implant therapy, make informed decisions regarding treatment and referral, and effectively contribute to the implant patient journey within everyday practice.
Objectives
By the end of this session participants will have been:
- Introduced to the key principles of case selection and risk assessment for dental implant therapy relevant to general dental practice.
- Introduced to decision-making frameworks for determining when implant treatment is appropriate and when referral is indicated, based on clinical complexity and patient factors.
- Provided with practical guidance on the role of the GDP within the implant treatment pathway, including patient communication, shared care and long-term maintenance.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session participants should be able to:
- Assess patient suitability for implant therapy by identifying key medical, dental and patient-related risk factors relevant to everyday clinical practice.
- Make informed clinical decisions regarding implant treatment and referral, including recognising appropriate indications, limitations and optimal timing for intervention.
- Describe the role of the general dental practitioner within the implant treatment pathway, including patient communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and long-term maintenance of implant restorations.
