Endodontics in 2026: key updates for everyday practice

Provide participants with an update on the European Society of Endodontology (ESE) S3-level clinical practice guidelines with a focus on diagnosis and the therapeutic approaches required to deal with patients with pulpitis and apical periodontitis. The session is designed for general dental practitioners in the NHS and private sector.

Objectives

By the end of this session participants will have been:

  1. Provided with a review of the key recommendations from the European Society of Endodontology S3-level clinical practice guidelines relating to the diagnosis of pulpitis and apical periodontitis.
  2. Guided on the evidence-based therapeutic approaches for managing pulpitis and apical periodontitis in both NHS and private practice settings.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session participants should be able to:

  1. Apply S3-level guideline recommendations to accurately diagnose pulpitis and apical periodontitis using clinical and radiographic findings.
  2. Formulate appropriate, patient-centred treatment plans (including vital pulp therapy and root canal treatment) based on current evidence.
  3. Integrate updated endodontic protocols into everyday general practice to improve clinical outcomes and decision-making.
